George D. Brown, 1935 – 2020. George passed peacefully on September 13. He was born 1935 in Indiana to Eugene and Nellie Brown as the second oldest child of 6, and later became the oldest when his oldest sister passed as a young child. He spent the bulk of his childhood in Phoenix, Az where he eventually met his wife of 60+ years, Gloria. He was serving in the US Navy and they maintained a long-distance relationship until they were wed in 1954 and moved to California shortly thereafter. Then in 1971, with three kids and a dog, the family moved to Idaho where they set down permanent roots. George is survived by his three children: Randall, Sharene & Phil.
Memorial
George David Brown passed peacefully on September 13th and was surrounded by family who loved him. George was married to his wife Gloria for more than 60 years and he loved her very much. Gloria passed in January 2019 and it is hoped that the Alzheimer disease that George suffered from might have sheltered him from the sorrow of the loss of Gloria. A potential silver-lining of this horrible disease.
George liked hunting, fishing, gardening (farming) and just being with friends and family. He wore a suite and tie to work every day at his job with the State of Idaho, but his heart was in the earth, growing vegetables and raising of cattle. When he would get home from work he would change into blue-jeans and boots and go out to his garden and/or pasture. …one of his happy places. He would spend hours sometime just staring at it all.
He also liked sports, such as softball & volleyball and was an avid BSU football fan. If you saw him bowling you would not easily forget his unique style. He was a bit competitive at bocce-ball, horseshoes, and darts. Other great passions included traveling and he and Gloria made several trips to Hawaii and the Bahamas, which affected his music choices dramatically. He left us all with many memories, laughter and good times. He was loved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
Although George did not take much stake with religion, he had strong spiritual believes. The following was always an important prayer to both George and Gloria:
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
